New River Runners

A friendly running and walking club in Giles County, VA

Running is more fun with friends

We welcome all paces and experience levels, especially beginners. We host group runs each week, run local races together, and love going for coffee after our Saturday morning run. We hope you join us!

Weekly Group Runs

We meet on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings every week (weather permitting) for a group run or walk. Follow us on Facebook for real-time updates about our group events.

You don’t need any experience with running to join us. We’ve all been there with just getting started, or starting again for the hundredth time. We welcome beginners. Must be 18+ or have an adult with you to join us.

What to expect at New River Runners

We’re not the fastest runners in the region, but we still have a good time. Most of us didn’t start running until we were adults. This group gives us a chance to meet new people, develop friendships, and support one another in staying active.

Getting started: On Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings, we meet in the gravel lot across from the Duck Pond in Narrows.

The route: We often run an out-and-back route, meaning you go as far as you’d like and turn around when it feels good to you. There are some beautiful places in Giles County, and we’re always happy when our runs take us along a creek or by the river.

The pace: We start together, but there’s no pressure to stay together and run as pack. Everyone is encouraged to run or walk at the pace that feels best to them that day. Our running paces tend to average between 9:00 and 11:00 minutes per mile. And, we often have people who walk or walk some parts (like the hills).

Finishing up: On Saturday mornings we like to go out for coffee, and sometimes on a hot day in the summer we have popsicles after our Tuesday night runs.
